Tentative Itinerary:

  • Day 1: Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina

  • Day 3-4: The Drake Passage
  • Days 5-9: South Shetland Islands and ANTARCTICA
  • Day 10-12: The Drake Passage back to Tierra Del Fuego

The Vavilov was built for the Russian Academy of Science and is one of the quietest and most stable ships in Antarctica. It is small and highly manueverable, with ice-strengthened hulls.

As far as penguins go, there is no shortage of them. We’ll be seeing Chinstrap, Gentoo, and Adelie Penguins on the trip. Bring awesome cameras. Most of us are shooting on Canon SLRs. The basic rule is to stay 20ft from the penguins. If you get down on the ground, it’s pretty common for the penguins to come up to you and hang out.
